There are two problems found which was related to security in Seringin Residences. Usage of access card is one of the problem found. Access card is normally a sort of identification that let one passes through an opening or spaces. It was used to enter spaces and transportation such as lifts, emergency exits and entrance to a certain location in the residence. With the use of access card, it provides safeness to the residents and prevent outsiders from entering. Although there are a few advantages, there are also a few disadvantages of using the access card system. From the information found in Seringin Residences, doors are only accessible when the user holds an access card. Besides, it is only effective when it is used in the correct block of the building for both doors and lifts. Furthermore, with the use of access card including the residents, are unable to get into other floors other than the floor where the resident’s house is located.
The second problem found which involves with the security was the fire extinguisher. Fire extinguisher is an equipment use to put out fire during emergency situations. The problem with the fire extinguisher was because it was located in a place where it is hard to be seen nor found.

With the usage of access card system and the restrictions, it is inconvenient for some residents which they have to use access card whenever they exit or enter a place or uses the lift. Moreover, people will get trapped during an incident due to the need of using access card for every doors and lifts and also unable to use the exits when the device used to scan the card is broken down. This might cause an uproar to the management department and also harm one’s life.
As for the fire extinguisher, when an incident occur, people will be running around refilling buckets of water to put out the fire instead of using the fire extinguisher as it is located somewhere deep and hard to find. Even when it is found, it will take up some time to bring it back to the incident scene as the equipment is heavy to carry.

1. Access Card System
The access card system can be used on elevator for tight security but not on emergency exits. This is because emergency exits are used for not only regular route to enter and exits a certain place but also an exit which allows faster evacuation during an incident. If robbery and crimes are the major concern, they should increase the number of CCTV on corridors, emergency exits and lift for better capture of the suspects. They can also make use of manpower by increasing numbers of security patrolling, so when an incident occur, they can provide help straight away. Besides, with the high capacity of residences, most people will probably get stuck in the same emergency exit due to the limitation of space. Therefore, a minimum of 2 emergency exits must be placed and it must be far from each other to bring convenience for people to escape from different locations.
Lastly, emergency exit signage must always be placed to show the location of the emergency door. This will allow people to tell which door is suitable for them to escape.

Furthermore, emergency doors which uses door knobs or lever should be replaced with push bar. Doors that uses push bar are much more easier and faster to open which is suitable for emergency door that requires everything to be fast during an escape. The reason why door knob and lever are not suitable because both method requires to be pull or twist to a certain extent for the door to be unlocked and it will not open the door immediately when one’s in panic or in a rush.
2. Fire Extinguisher Placement
Fire extinguisher should be placed in the area with high possibility of people passing by. This arrangement helps people to locate the equipment easier and also remain in people’s mind of the fire extinguisher’s location. Fire extinguisher should not be placed in places which creates fire easily. This is because when the fire happen to start, it is difficult for people to obtain it when is near the fire. Moreover, placing the right fire extinguisher in the correct location is very important.
There are many types of fire extinguisher, the most common extinguisher used in Malaysia are ABC dry powder extinguisher and CO2 extinguisher. Both extinguisher are suitable for type B which is used for flammable liquids and electrical contact but extinguisher with ABC dry powder have wider range of usage which includes type A, burning wood, paper and textiles and type F for flammable gasses.
